Adidas has released The Indoor Shoe, a cycling shoe designed specifically for – yep, you guessed it – indoor cycling.

The brand says the Indoor Shoe is designed to deal with the high intensity of indoor training, whether spin classes or home workouts on a smart trainer, thanks to its lightweight and breathable design.

The shoe will retail for £110 / €130 and is currently available exclusively online via the Adidas website.

After a 15-year hiatus from producing cycling footwear, Adidas returned to the bike market with The Road Shoe in 2020 and The Gravel Shoe in August this year.

Unlike its road and gravel shoes though, which use a lace closure system, for the Indoor Shoe Adidas has chosen a Velcro strap, which cross-crosses over the top of the foot to “enable easy entry and quick adjustments”.

The shoe is compatible with three-bolt cleats and has a fibreglass-nylon sole. This appears to be the same sole as The Road Shoe, with markers for cleat position and an embossed Adidas logo. It has heel and toe pads, as well as a loop on the heel.

The upper of the shoe uses lightweight recycled material and has two mesh sections, which are said to provide plenty of ventilation and aid cooling.

The Indoor Shoe has Adidas’s unmistakable three-stripe design on the side, much like its football boots and running shoes.

Available in white, black or ‘Acid Red’, Adidas says the shoe offers “all cyclists the ability to choose a shoe to match their individual style”.

Adidas says creating a variety of options for an array of cyclists is a leading objective for the brand with its cycling shoes.

Celine Del Genes, general manager of Adidas’s specialist sports department, emphasises the brand’s desire “to cater to the needs of a rapidly developing new cycling culture”, which was a message shared with the release of The Gravel Shoe, too.
